FAQ

Pardon our construction noise!

Persimi is in a very early stage of development, so our support documentation is limited and fluid. The product itself is under frequent and continuous iteration. As a result, there may be more rough edges than you'll find in an established product. We're pushing hard to solidify our core features and add additional value as quickly as we can.

If you have a question that doesn't have an answer below, reach out to us any time at help@persimi.com and we'll get back to you with an answer ASAP.

Profiles

What is a profile?

A profile is a set of criteria that describes a range of people. It consists of elements like age range, location areas, and possible ethnicities, to name a very few. When Persimi generates personas (simulated people) for you to interact with, it does do based on the criteria set in a profile.

A profile can be very narrow - specifying one age and one location, for example - or very broad, setting practically no limits on the personas that might be generated under that criteria.

How do I create a profile?

Profiles are found on the main "Profiles and Personas" page. You can find it under the "Home" icon at the top right of the screen.

To create a new profile, click the big green "Create a New Profile" button at the bottom of that page.

How do I edit or delete a profile?

You can edit or delete a profile by clicking the "Edit Profile" or "Delete Profile" options in the profile display box on the "Profiles and Personas" page.

Note that you cannot edit or delete a profile if it contains personas. This is a safety measure, and prevents the possibility of having personas that no longer match the criteria of your profile after it's edited. If you want to edit a profile without deleting the personas it contains, you can copy the profile and make your changes to the copy.

How do I restore a deleted profile?

Unfortunately, there is no way to restore a profile once it has been deleted.

How do I use an existing profile as a template to create a new profile?

To create a new profile based on the criteria of an existing profile, click the "Copy Profile" option in the profile display box on the "Profiles and Personas" page.

Personas & Conversation

What is a persona

A persona is a simulated person generated by Persimi that you can interact with. Personas are generated according to the criteria you specify in a profile.

How do I generate a new persona?

To generate a new persona, click the "Generate a Persona" button in the corresponding profile display box on the "Profiles and Personas" page. Persimi will automatically use the criteria established in that profile to generate a persona with relevant traits.

How do I get more specific or more wide-ranging personas?

Persona are generated according to the criteria of the profile they are generated under. To get more specific personas, apply more specific profile criteria. To get wider-ranging personas, apply less-specific profile criteria. While the free plan limits the number of profiles you're allowed, paid plans do not limit profiles–so you can have as many different sets of criteria as you want (and as many personas generated under each of them as you choose).

How do I interact with a persona?

To interact with a persona, locate your chosen persona on the "Profiles & Personas" page. Then click the blue speech bubble icon in the row with that persona's name and portrait.

On the persona page, you'll find the persona starts a conversation with you automatically.

Is the information provided by a persona accurate?

The information provided by a persona is generally very accurate, based on the best available information as interpreted by the ChatGPT artificial intelligence. However, Persimi is geared toward providing information that is subjective to the persona who provides it, as seen from their perspective. So information received from a persona should be considered as no more reliable than any information obtained in conversation. Additionally, as OpenAI will tell you, ChatGPT can make mistakes as well.

So while the information provided by a persona is generally very accurate, always use it as just one channel of research, and confirm any critical information with additional authoritative sources.

Is a conversation with a persona as good as a conversation with a real human with those same traits?

Categorically no.

Persimi does not (and cannot) replace the value of an actual conversation with a real human being, especially as it relates to obtaining their unique perspectives on their unique human life.

Persimi's role is to simulate conversations you're not going to have, augment the information human conversations provide, and to help you have more substantive human conversations in general.

How is this different than engaging with AI chat directly?

Conversations in Persimi are facilitated by detailed profile information, contextually-dynamic prompts, and other tidbits that greatly enhance the authenticity of simulated personas and dramatically improve the value of the responses they provide. We won't say it's impossible to replicate the value of Persimi by working directly with AI chat, but it would take detailed expertise, a lot of time, and a ridiculous amount of patience.

Are there topics Persimi personas will not discuss?

Yes. Conversations are currently directed away from adult themes and sensitive topics. This is not a guarantee that conversations will never drift into uncomfortable territory. Our goal is to facilitate insightful conversations with a strong sense of propriety for the sensitivities of our human users. We will continue to fine-tune what's permitted, what's not, in what context, and via what methods.

How do I delete a persona?

To delete a persona, locate your chosen persona on the "Profiles & Personas" page. Then click the "X" icon at the end of the row with that persona's name and portrait.

How do I restore a deleted persona?

Unfortunately, there is no way to restore a persona once it has been deleted.

Can I delete or reset a conversation?

No. Like conversations with real humans, the content of your conversation becomes a part of your relationship with them. Your approach to future conversations would be a problem. You wouldn't ask questions you already knew the answer to, and the persona would have no way of knowing that you knew, or why you knew. Or, if the details from past conversations were no longer true, you might as well have created a new persona.

So that's what you'll need to do. To start a new conversation, simply create a new persona. And you may choose to keep or delete the original persona (and their associated conversations).

How do I generate a summary of my conversation with a persona?

Select "Insight Summary" from the left navigation on the persona screen, and then click "Generate Summary" in the top right corner of the summary box. Note that in order to create a summary, the conversation needs to be long enough to have content worth summarizing. Also note that summaries are not available on a free Persimi account.

Feature Availability & Access

Some options and features seem to be missing?

Some options and features can be made available (or not) to Persimi users by their account administrator. If there is an option or feature you're not seeing, it's likely that it has been turned off for your level of access.

If you are an account owner, and do not see an expected option or feature, it may be available only at a higher customer tier.

How do I see the tutorials and other new user content again?

Under the "?" icon in the header, select "Restore Tutorials", and it'll be just like you're a new user again. You'll see pop up walk-through tutorials the first time you visit key pages.

How do I request a feature or an extension of an existing feature?

Under the "?" icon in the header, select "Feedback", to tell us what you need. We are adding elements to the application all the time, especially in response to user feedback.

Credits & Billing

How do credits work

Some features and functions within Persimi require the use of a credit. Each account tier has a limited number of credits provided each month. You might use credits to create a persona or to have an interaction them.

Persimi is based on a credit model because the AI resources that power our interactions and other functions are usage based. This model allows our users to get as much or as little as they need from Persimi at a price tailored to that use.

Why do you use a credit system?

Persimi's interactions with AI are powered by ChatGPT, and each such exchange comes with an underlying cost. In order to keep our subscription prices low, and charge customers only for the service they individually need, we meter AI interactions with credits.

Do you have an unlimited access / open-credit plan?

Not currently.

Do credits roll-over month-to-month?

Yes. Your credits remain available until you use them.

Can I see how my credits are being used?

Yes. Every credit used is shown as a line item in your Account Panel in the Usage History.

How do I downgrade, cancel, or delete my account?

Those options are provided for you in your Account Panel under "Billing".

Do you offer refunds?

We do not offer refunds for payments made for subscriptions or credit purchases. When you cancel recurring payments, your account remains paid through your next renewal date.

If you spend credits on an action that results in a system error, Persimi will work with you to restore those credits to your account. Please be specific when you report such issues, so we can track down and correct the root cause as well.
